What’s happening at UBC?- March 2015

With the arrival of spring comes a fantastic slate of on-campus events at UBC. We’ve highlighted a selection of some of the many fantastic events which are being run on campus this month!

March 3rd: 27th Annual CHSPR Health Policy Conference: Sticker Shock: Finding value in an era of high-price drugs

The UBC Centre for Health Services and Policy Research is hosting its annual conference on Tuesday March 3rd. With a focus on the rising prices of medical treatments and drugs, the conference will feature conversation with top experts in the field in order to shed light on this controversial subject. March 5th: International Students: Returning home? Essential Job Search Strategies before going back.

Are you an International Student returning home to work after graduation? If so, the Centre for Student Involvement & Careers is hosting a workshop on Thursday March 5th which will provide you with tips on how to leverage the skills you developed in Canada and start your job search. You will also learn how to start building your network. Interested students can register online via UBC CareersOnline.

March 6th: UBC Relay for Life 2015

On Friday March 6th, UBC is hosting its 4th Annual Relay for Life event at the Student Recreation Centre. A 12-hour, non-competitive relay, the Relay for Life aims to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society, while also raising awareness. With food, live performances, guest speakers and much more to look forward to, the UBC Relay for Life is a must-attend event this March. For more information, please visit: www.relayforlife.ca/UBC

March 9th-13th: Vote in the AMS Elections

It’s that time of year again! It is time for the UBC student body to elect a new team of representatives for the Alma Mater Society. Students are encouraged to attend the numerous debates and special events being hosted from March 2nd-13th in order to meet the candidates, before casting their vote in the week of March 9th-13th. March 21st: Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Conference

Coming up on Saturday March 21st, MURC is a conference for UBC undergraduate students to showcase their research in front of their fellow UBC students, family, and friends. Researchers may choose one of two formats to showcase their research: presentation or poster. MURC presenters are any UBC undergraduate student who is participating in, or has completed, their own Faculty-supervised research project. All Faculties and Schools are welcome.

March 22nd-26th: UBC Intramurals’ “Storm the Wall”

A UBC tradition, “Storm the Wall” will be held on campus from March 22nd-26th. A four-part relay featuring a swim, sprint, run and bike, the event culminates in each team tackling the infamous 12-ft wall. Whether you join a team, or come out to watch, you won’t want to miss this event! Registration is ongoing until Friday March 13th. http://www.recreation.ubc.ca/intramurals/events/storm-the-wall/
